Chairman MDDA
Dr Naveed Syed has been recently elected as the MDDA Chairman and was previously its Vice Chairman, Treasurer and Executive Committee member, and has over 25 years’ experience in public health in the UK and Pakistan.
Professor Wasim Hanif
Executive MDDA
Prof. Wasim Hanif is a Professor of Diabetes & Endocrinology, Consultant Physician, & Head of Service in diabetes at University Hospital Birmingham. He is a Hon. Professor of Medicine at University of Warwick. He is the Board Member of Centre for Diabetes Endocrine & Metabolism, University of Birmingham.
Dr Hamida Syed
Executive MDDA
After graduation Hamida relocated to Manchester (UK) and travelled the UK whilst raising five boys.
She competed her MRCGP (London) and Fellow of Family Planning to became a successful GP and now works for an inner city award-winning practice in UK's second largest city Birmingham as a GP Partner.
Dr Ayisha Usman
Social Secretary MDDA
Dr Ayisha has been recently elected as the MDDA Social Secretary. Currently, she is working in Birmingham Heartlands Hospital as a Junior Specialist Doctor in Acute Internal Medicine. She is also a Medical assessor for the D4 drivers which is the UK's largest provider of the driver medicals.
Fizza Mushtaq
General Secretary
Ms Fizza Mushtaq has previously been social secretary at the MDDA and an active member for the last 10 years. She is currently working as an executive committee member within the MDDA.
Graduating from the University Of Nottingham in 2010 , Fizza has been working towards her training as an ophthalmic surgeon and has now received her CCT in this field.
Mr Mushtaq Ahmed

Mr Mushtaq Ahmed is an active member of the MDDA since 1997 and has been a previous chairman. He is currently on the executive committee with over 25 years of experience within the society. He is currently working as an Orthopaedic Consultant with a special interest in spinal surgery and sports injuries at Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Trust.

Dr Gauhar Sharih
Executive Committee
Dr Gauhar Sharih is currently a substantive Consultant Anaesthetist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Birmingham Women's Hospital.
He also has previously worked for 1 year as an attending Anaesthesiologist in USA. Apart from Obstetric Anaesthesia, he also provides anaesthesia for orthopaedic surgery (regional blocks), ENT surgery/Difficult Airways, Gynaecological surgery and Resuscitation/Advanced Life Support (I am an ALS Instructor).
He is also the Lead Anaesthetist for our Anaesthesia Associate Training program and am a fully accredited Educational and Clinical Supervisor at the hospital.
